Modify product attribute values

Goal

To modify attribute values for products, categories, or other items directly within Propeller. While attribute definitions are created in the Admin module, their values are managed within each item's detail page.


Prerequisites

Before modifying attribute values:

  • Attributes must be created in Admin > Attributes
  • Ensure attributes are assigned to the correct class (Product, Category, Cluster, etc.)
  • Verify user permissions for editing products

Step 1: Locate the Item

  1. Navigate to PIM > Products & Clusters.
  2. Search for the item using:
  • Product name
  • SKU or product code
  • Category filters
  1. Click on the product to open its details.

Step 2: Access Attributes

  1. In the product details screen, click the Attributes tab.
  2. The attributes list displays:
  • Attribute name
  • Current value
  • Attribute type
  • Edit options
  1. Attributes are grouped by their configuration in the Admin module.

Step 3: Modify Attribute Values

  1. Locate the attribute you want to modify.
  2. Click the Edit button or pencil icon next to the attribute.
  3. Update the value based on attribute type:
  • Text: Enter or modify text
  • Number: Input numerical values
  • Decimal: Enter decimal numbers
  • Date: Select from date picker
  • Boolean: Toggle Yes/No
  • Enum: Select from dropdown options
  1. For multi-language attributes, use the language selector to update each language.
  2. Click Save or confirm the change.

Attribute Types and Input Methods

Text Attributes

  • Free-form text entry
  • May have character limits
  • Supports multi-language values

Numeric Attributes

  • Integer or decimal values
  • May include units (configured in Admin)

Enum (Dropdown) Attributes

  • Select from predefined options
  • Options managed via valuesets in Admin

Boolean Attributes

  • Simple Yes/No toggle
  • Default values set in Admin

Date Attributes

  • Calendar picker interface
  • Format depends on system settings

Best Practices

Data Consistency

  • Use consistent formatting across similar products
  • Follow established naming conventions
  • Maintain unit consistency (e.g., always use cm for dimensions)

Multi-language Management

  • Complete attributes for all active languages
  • Ensure translations are accurate
  • Use consistent terminology across languages

Search Optimization

  • Use searchable attributes for important specifications
  • Include relevant keywords in text attributes
  • Keep enum values clear and descriptive

Common B2B Attributes

Technical Specifications

  • Dimensions: Length, width, height with units
  • Weight: Product and shipping weight
  • Material: Construction materials, compliance info
  • Certifications: ISO, CE, safety standards

Commercial Information

  • Minimum Order Quantity: MOQ values
  • Lead Time: Days for delivery
  • Country of Origin: Manufacturing location
  • Warranty Period: Coverage duration

Classification

  • Industry Codes: UNSPSC, commodity codes
  • Technical Standards: DIN, ANSI specifications
  • Application Areas: Use case categories
  • Compatibility: Related products or systems

Important Notes

  • Attribute Structure: Cannot be modified here - use Admin > Attributes
  • Valueset Options: Enum options are managed in Admin > Valuesets
  • Inheritance: Some attributes may inherit default values
  • Visibility: Hidden attributes won't appear in the product details
  • Permissions: Edit access may vary by user role
  • Auto-save: Some attribute types save automatically upon selection
